St. Joachim and St. Anne

Beloved Parish Family In Jesus Our Lord,

Honoring St. Joachim and St. Anne the holy parents of our Blessed Mother.

What special privileges are given to certain members of our human family and we give praise to God for this. So many holy Saints in heaven are deeply blessed by the unusual parents they had like St. Theresa the Little Flower. Her parents were truly filled with a love for each other, for their family and for the Lord. St. John Paul II told us some things about his very special Dad.

Our Blessed Mother is really the most blessed because God honored them to conceive this one girl who would belong to God in a most special way and share in the gift of salvation for the entire human race.

St. Joachim and St. Anne became the actual grandparents of Jesus, and the fact is, their blood line is traced back to the royal line of King David. The promise made to king David is fulfilled by the Mom and Dad of Holy Mary the Mother of Jesus.

St. Joachim and St. Anne are the only parents to give birth to a child without the original sin. We ponder what that holy birth was like. We wonder what this perfect child looked like and how much she was so loved by her grateful parents.

The devotion to St. Ann began very early in the Eastern Church and she was depicted in sacred art in a seated position with a little and very young girl beside her showing young Mary the Sacred Scriptures. God’s Holy Word was Mary’s first school at a very young age.

Then at the proper time the parents brought Mary to the Temple and presented her to live there. From a very early age Mary would be consecrated to the Holy Temple, the place where the blessed gifts of God were kept. In God’s time Mary would contain in Her pure womb the God made Man the most precious gift of all the world.

And so as Mary would become a supper and powerful intercessor for all our prayers so would St. Anne and St. Joachim. A great testimony of this is the Shrines built in her honor such as St. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec, Canada and St. Anne Shrine near my home in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

At both of these holy places pilgrims traveled with great prayer requests and they were miraculously answered. Just for you and in honor of the Feast of St. Anne and St. Joachim which was on Saturday, July 26 I am reprinting a special prayer for your use. May your prayers be answered.
